Merino Sheep

Why Merino & TENCEL™ Lyocell

One thing I learnt pretty early on was that toilet learning asks a lot of a pair of training pants.

They need to be soft enough for little ones to happily wear, practical enough for everyday life, and help manage moisture along the way.

I soon realised there wasn't one perfect fabric that could do all of that.

After trying lots of different fabric combinations, I kept coming back to merino wool and TENCEL™ Lyocell.

Together, they became the foundation of Gogo Shorties.

Why Merino

Merino was always going to be part of the Gogo Shorties story. I loved how soft it felt, how well it helped manage moisture, and its natural ability to resist odours, helping keep little trainers feeling fresher between washes. During toilet learning, it also helps create that balance between allowing children to notice when they’re wet, while still feeling soft and comfortable against their skin. It also dries relatively quickly and is wonderfully durable when cared for well.

For me, merino offered the perfect combination of comfort and practicality.

Why TENCEL™ Lyocell

As much as I loved merino, I knew it couldn't do everything on its own.

That's where TENCEL™ Lyocell came in.

TENCEL™ Lyocell is a fibre made from sustainably sourced wood, most commonly eucalyptus. Like merino, it's silky soft and breathable, but it's also naturally absorbent, making it the perfect partner for the fabric closest to your child's skin.

Blending the two created exactly what I had been looking for, a fabric that feels lovely to wear while helping move moisture into the absorbent layers beneath.

Every Layer Has a Job

While merino and TENCEL™ sit at the heart of Gogo Shorties, they don't work alone.

A bamboo terry absorbent core provides reliable absorbency without unnecessary bulk, while a hidden waterproof layer offers a little extra reassurance when you're out and about.

The bamboo terry also includes a small amount of polyester to add strength, durability and help it dry more quickly after washing.

Just like merino and TENCEL™, each fabric has been carefully chosen to do a specific job, working together to create training pants that feel comfortable for children and practical for parents.
